Frequently Asked Questions
What ingredients are in Fireflies candles?
Soy wax, high quality fragrance oils and cotton braided wicks – that’s it! No additives or dyes are added for clean, beautiful burn.
What kind of wicks do you use?
We use a flat braided cotton wick that have a consistent burn with soy wax and are both lead and zinc free.
What should I do when I light my first Fireflies candle?
For the best initial burn, set aside at least 3 hours of uninterrupted time where you can safely burn your candle. Trim the wick to ¼”, discard the excess wick you trimmed off so it prevents a fire hazard and then light your candle! Burn your candle until the wax melts across the entire surface. This is important because soy wax has a “memory” and each time you light the candle, it will remember the last burn and melt across the entire surface. If you do not allow the candle to burn across the surface, you will end up with tunneling which means the candle remembers it only burned ½ way across the candle and every consecutive time you burn it, it will continue to burn down at that initial melt diameter. Sit back relax and take in the beautifully scented Fireflies candle!
Why is there uneven adherence to the glass jars occasionally?
Soy wax sometimes does this because it is the nature of the soft wax (called frosting) and it is completely normal. It does NOT affect the fragrance or how the candle burns.
Why Soy Wax?
Soy wax is a natural and renewable candle resource and is derived from soy beans. It is biodegradable and is water soluble, so it cleans up easily with soap and water. Soy wax candles also burn slower or longer than other candle waxes because it has a lower melting point. It also produces little to now soot when burning. Soy wax is made in the USA and supports local farmers. We will not use paraffin or a combination of paraffin/soy wax blends because they are made from petroleum based product which has been linked to containing harmful toxins.
Where are your candles made?
Our candles are proudly made in the USA in Eau Claire, Wisconsin!
Why mason jars?
Mason jars have stood the test of time in both style and strength. They make the perfect container for candles because they are made to withstand high temperatures and are known for their durability…AND once your candle has burned completely, you can reuse them in an unlimited ways!
How should I extinguish my candle?
You should NOT put a candle out by using the lid. Either blow the candle out or use a candle snuffer and then place the lid on your jar.
What type of fragrance oils are used in Fireflies candles?
We use top quality fragrance oils that consist of both natural (extracted from plants or flowers) and synthetic (made from man-made materials) fragrances. They are phthalate free and do not require a Prop 65 warning label (CA specific) which means the fragrances do NOT contain chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects or reproductive harm.

Why do I need to trim the candle wick?
The rule of thumb is to trim your wick to ¼” EACH time you light your candle so it burns efficiently and without any black soot. A properly trimmed wick will give your candle a longer burn time as well. If you do NOT trim your wick properly, it will start to burn both the soy wax and the wick itself which will cause black soot. (This is not petro-soot like in paraffin candles but rather the wick burning causing the black soot.)
How do I clean my mason jars to re-use them?
Soy wax is water soluble, so the jars are easy to clean with hot soapy water. Remember do NOT pour any excess wax down your drains because the wax will solidify and clog your pipes!
